DOCKS Tronchetto · San GiulianoFLEET 20 boats · 6 with cranesQUOTES in Italian and English
In short
Four steps, one point of contact.
You write to us. Through the quote request form, by email or on WhatsApp: what needs moving, from where to where, and when.
We send a quote. A lump sum for the job described, or rates for repeated or multi-day services. In Italian or English.
We plan. We choose the boat, crane, dock and crew. The day before, we send you the name and phone number of the skipper.
The job. We load at the dock or straight from the truck and deliver to the canal side or up to the floor, as agreed.
For your quote
What we need to know.
The more complete your first request, the faster the quote and the fewer surprises on the day. These are the questions we would otherwise ask you:
From where to where. Dock, truck or pick-up address; for delivery the sestiere and house number, or the name of the palazzo, hotel or pavilion.
When. Date and time, and the return date if there is one (even months later, as for the Biennale).
What. Number of pieces, size and weight of the heaviest piece, total weight or volume. Palletised or hand-movable? A photo or packing list helps a lot.
How far. Unloading at the canal side or delivery to the floor: if so, which floor, stairs, lift and who carries the goods inside.
Crane. If some pieces can't be lifted by hand, tell us the weight: the right boat depends on it.
People. If someone needs to travel with the load (art handlers, technicians, crew), say so in your request.
Value. For artworks and valuable goods, the declared value: we need it to assess insurance cover.
Invoicing. Company name, VAT number, and SDI code for Italian companies.
Waste. Type of material, EWC (CER) code if known, quantity and whether it is already bagged.
Two docks, one in the city and one on the mainland.
Venice · Tronchetto
Isola Nuova del Tronchetto 14, 30135 Venice. Our base and the most used meeting point: trucks drive onto the dock and load straight into the boat. Paid parking nearby. Open the map →
Mestre · San Giuliano
Via San Giuliano 8/b, Mestre. A mainland dock, handy if you arrive from the ring road. Meetings here must always be arranged in advance. Open the map →
Our main warehouse is on the mainland (1,000 m²), with another 200 m² in the historic centre. For every job we tell you the most convenient loading point.
Boats and cranes
Twenty boats, six with cranes.
On-board cranes up to 20 tonne-metres; El Nini carries up to 60 tonnes and 56 m³. A crane's capacity drops with its reach from the canal side, which is why we need the weight of the heaviest piece. Two units have refrigerated holds.

What is included
The scope, written in the quote.
Unloading at the canal side or delivery to the floor by our porters: it is the first thing we state in the quote.
Loading from the truck at the dock, with the on-board crane or dock equipment if the piece requires it.
Labour by the hour or by the day, even without transport.
Insurance of the goods: on request, based on the declared value.
Disposal of packaging and waste materials with waste transfer note (FIR), if needed.
Hours and booking
Every day of the year, with some notice.
Standard hours are weekdays from 7 am to 5 pm. We also work on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, evenings and nights, with a surcharge stated in the quote.
Between January and April (Biennale installations), in November (de-installations) and during the autumn event season the fleet books up early: write to us as soon as you have a date. For urgent jobs, call us.
The price
How a quote is built.
We don't publish a price list because every transport in the lagoon is different. The price depends on:
the type and capacity of the boat, with or without a crane;
the duration (hours, half day, full day) or number of trips, with a minimum number of hours per trip;
the day and time slot;
labour for loading, unloading and delivery to the floor;
dock services, storage and disposal, if needed.
If volumes or weights change, the number or type of boats may change, and so may the price: that is why we ask for accurate sizes and weights.
Payment and documents
Invoices, deposits, supplier registration.
Payment terms are stated in every quote. For public bodies and foreign clients who cannot pay against a quote, we issue a deposit invoice.
For your supplier registration we send our DURC (Italian social security compliance certificate), company registration extract, insurance policy and ISO certificates: ask at info@catilservizi.it. Our certifications are also on the Certifications page.
On the day
A name and a phone number.
The day before, we tell you who is skippering the boat and how to reach them. Please send us the contact of your driver or on-site contact too. If anything changes — time, volumes, access — let us know straight away: in the lagoon it is easier to re-plan with some margin.
